There exists some ephemeral quality that separates gamers from the rest of humanity, some thing that makes us, us and them, not us. (...)

There exists some ephemeral quality that separates gamers from the rest of humanity, some thing that makes us, us and them, not us. I've never been able to quite put my finger on it, but it is inescapably there.

Today, in hopes of moving closer to that essential quality of gamerosity, we examine part of what makes us tick. In particular, we take a look at what draws different types of gamers to the hobby. Every gamer plays for different reasons, but there are common threads that tie the experience together.

Many gamers are motivated by the challenge a game can present. Success in a game may be governed by any of a wide variety of abilities. A First Person Shooter requires twitch reflexes, a steady hand and the ability to remain calm under pressure. A word puzzle game may require an extensive vocabulary and the ability to rethink the uses of old words, but no measure of speed. A sports simulation might well require an in-depth knowledge of the topic, in addition to arcade skill, but is unlikely to have terribly much concern for linguistic acumen.

The common thread is that all of the games challenge some subset of a player's abilities. This challenge can be a powerful motivator. The Challenge Motivated gamer is drawn to a game that tests their skills, preferably one that tests them to their limits.

The gamer may also be motivated by the natural improvement that comes from working at peak. They are driven then, not only to excel, but to improve. Challenge Motivated Gamers thrive whenever a game pushes their skill set of choice, but may be disinterested in games that fall too far away from the target.

Competition is a close cousin of challenge. Many gamers are driven by the need to prove they are the best, to be pitted against their fellows and come out on top. Competition minded gamers range from those looking for a challenge in a fair fight to the sort of win-at-all cost leet speaking infants that give us all a bad name.

Competition can be easy to take too far. There is nothing inherently wrong with being driven by competition. To some extent, competition is merely challenge taken to the extreme. It is only when it leads to mistreating your fellow player that it begins to become less a motivation and more an unfortunate personality quirk.

Competition Motivated players thrive on those games where they are pitted against one another with the outcome dictated by skill at playing the game. They will often wane in those environments that either require cooperation, such as many MMORPGs, or in games where skill plays a much smaller role, such as in less sophisticated card or dice games.

If you are into paintball or thinking of getting into it, there are many variations that can be played. (...)

If you are into paintball or thinking of getting into it, there are many variations that can be played. In addition to the simple choice of playing indoors or outdoors there are also variants within each of those genres. Despite the differences al of the games have a single purpose which is to shoot your opponent before they shoot you!

Here?s a look at some of the more popular types of paintball games being played today:

The first one we will have a look at is the old standby, "Capture the Flag?. This is a takeoff on the game of the same name that many of us are familiar with. The way the game is played is by each of the teams trying to find and capture the opposing team?s flag while guarding their own flag from being taken. Victory is achieved by getting the opponent?s flag safely back to your base camp without being killed.

Another popular game is called "Elimination?. In this game the first team to succeed in taking out all of the participants in the opposing team is deemed the winner. This is a fun game, even if only one remains standing his team wins.

Center Flag is a variation of the Capture the Flag game, in this version the game starts with a flag being placed in a neutral area usually in the center of the field, the team that is able to get the flag all the way through to the opposing team?s end of the paintball field wins the game.

Resurrection is a variation of Elimination except that in this version players may resurrect or come back into the game at the designated starting point once they are shot. This game is sometimes played in conjunction with Capture The Flag.

The last paintball game variation we will look at is one sometimes called "Just Plain Crazy?, also known as superman, total elimination, and counterstrike. This extremely brutal version is played solo or on teams and begins with each player or team at opposite sides of the field. Next they rush to the middle of the field and begin firing with the last person standing or the last person on a team winning the game.

This is usually done at the end of a round of paintball to get rid of paintballs and expend the CO2 cartridges or empty tanks. You are not eliminated with a single shot like in other variations, people quit due to pain or from running out of paintballs or air.

If you've seen the Sudoku game with its squares and numerals you've probably assumed that it's a mathematical game. (...)

If you've seen the Sudoku game with its squares and numerals you've probably assumed that it's a mathematical game. And if you don't like maths then it's likely you haven't given it a go. But you're actually mistaken if you think this because theSudoku game is a logic-based game that has nothing to do with arithmetic. In fact, at the basic levels, you could replace the numerals in the boxes with pictures or patterns and still play it.

The Sudoku game is actually a puzzle that is really good for exercising the brain. The three processes used in solving the puzzle are scanning, marking up, and analysing. This will challenge everyone, especially those who tend to think in a more random fashion. Its popularity has increased probably due to the fact that there are many levels in the game, which means you are always being challenged.

For example, the basic process of scanning is developed for the advanced players into contingency scanning. And for those who are highly skilled at solving theSudoku game , they can learn how to make their own puzzles. This can be tricky because without a clear understanding of how the game works, the end result could be an unsolvablepuzzle.

When looking for a level in the puzzles, don't think that the quantity of numerals determines whether it is a level 1 or level 4. It is the position and relevance of the 'givens' (the numerals already written in the boxes) that determine the difficulty. Also, publications rate their levels differently so that a level 1 in one publication may be the same as a level 2 in another.

You can obtain the Sudoku game from many sources. Not only are they found in books and magazines, but they are also available online. Many of these puzzles are found free in newspapers and magazines. Online sites will have some that are free and others that you need to become a member of first. So, this game can be played anywhere at anytime which makes it even more popular. And you don't need anyone else to play with you. You are competing with yourself to solve thepuzzle.

So, if you are now interested in giving the Sudoku game a go, here are some tips to get you started:

* Use a pencil to write in all the possible numerals for each cell and then eliminate as you progress.
* Don't try to guess the numerals. It doesn't work and you end up getting very frustrated. Remember, this is a logic-based game.
* As you progress, you will find a cell that will only take one possible numeral, so rub-out that numeral in the other cells = elimination
* You may find two cells that will each take the same two numerals (this is called 'a naked pair') so leave them there but rub-out all the other possibilities in the other cells

There are many more tips online to help you play the game.

This Sudoku Game is finding increasing popularity - why don't you join the many people who are enjoying the challenge of this puzzle game?

Summary:

The Sudoku game isn't a mathematical game it is logic-based. In fact, you could replace the numerals with symbols in the basic levels. Challenge your mind with this puzzle!

Author: gnomesociety
Seems a lot of people these days are interested in becoming paid video game testers. (...)

Author: gnomesociety

Seems a lot of people these days are interested in becoming paid video game testers. With all the excitement surrounding the release of the latest gaming consoles like the PS3 and Nintendo Wii, this is no surprise. So let's take a look at the different types of video game tester jobs that are available for gamers.

Job 1: Self-Employed Video Game Tester

Everyday people are searching online for information and reviews about the latest game releases. Some very smart gamers are filling that demand by putting up their own websites and blogs and writing reviews of games as they play them. They also include tips, screenshots and more that their visitors will find useful. By adding Google Adsense ads or other advertiser's ads to their websites, they've created their own video game testing business that makes money everyday - just for playing games and telling others about it!

Job 2: Freelance Video Game Tester

Some gamers with a bit more experience and motivation take things up a notch. These gamers actively seek out companies who produce games and offer to test their upcoming release for bugs, playability and other features. This type of work pays very well, but requires the video game tester to be able to communicate and write very clearly - and also to be very punctual. As a freelance video game tester, you'll be expected to play unreleased games from the comfort of your own home, provide written feedback as instructed by the developer and return this information within a specified time frame. Your reward for this? A big fat paycheck by mail!

Job 3: Full-time Corporate Game Tester

It is also possible to get hired by large game developers for a full time game testing position. These are the ultimate dream jobs for many gamers, but are very difficult to get. They require a high level of communication and writing skills plus plenty of experience. On the other hand, the reward is that much greater too - a high paying, secure, full-time job doing what you enjoy most - gaming! Many gamers build up the experience needed to get these types of positions by working as freelance video game testers until they've built up a solid resume of completed assignments.

As you can see, there are many ways to make money playing video games. A bit of time spent sharpening up your writing skills combined with your interest in gaming and a desire to share your knowledge with others can easily add up to a great job!

So you're sitting around the poker table on your usual Wednesday night. It's the night of hump day and you and your buddies have successfully made it half way through your business week. You break out the chips, dish out the cards, and light up your favorite brand of stogie. Two puffs in, the bar owner approaches and says, "Sorry guys, new law passed… you can't smoke in here any more." Everyone freezes, wanting to laugh at what you hope is a joke, but his face is serious. What do you do?

You come back next week with an eco-friendly cigar in hand and it's business as usual without skipping a beat. How? There's a new stogie in town and you could be the first of your friends to know about it. It has an authentic look and feel - the tip even lights up to simulate a burning cigar! For about the cost of one good cigar, you can pick up its tobacco-free counterpart and get between 1800-2000 drags. That's about 10 cigars' worth right there! The "safe cigar" is safe to smoke indoors because there is no flame or odor. The smokey vapor it releases even tastes like a real cigar but it's completely harmless (mostly a water vapor). So enjoy it indoors, save your favorite bar owner some smoking fines, avoid the second-hand smoke and mouth cancer, and still get your nicotine fix in an environmentally friendly and safe way with the safer smoking alternative - The Safe Cigar!
