Another GTA imitation! True Crime Streets of L.A. is a game that’s very much like Grand Theft Auto, you get missions, you can hijack cars, get guns, but one thing that sets it a bit different is the fact that you play a cop on the mean streets of L.A. You do various missions for the cop force; these could include shootouts, infiltrating warehouses, or even just a simple tailing mission. The game has a story to it, so if you’re doing a mission and its a bit to hard you can just click to continue story, (note: it messes with the story and your mission complete percent) and your off to the next mission but with a little confusion of what you did how to get there. And another thing that could pretty much screw with the story is the good cop/bad cop meter, if you kill pedestrians you go one down, arrest or find illegal drugs on a pedestrian. Another cool thing to the game is just go around solving crimes, from street races, street fights, prostitution, and maybe just taking out a car jacker. Just simply look at your map and if you see a red blip, just drive to it.
The controls for the game are pretty straight forward, took me a solid 30 minutes to understand it all but it was worth it when I’d slow motion dive into a room filled with the Russian mob taking them all out before I hit the ground. But another half I’d have to hit the start button and go to the controls to see how to get in a car, pick up a weapon, or just grab an enemy for cover. The controls for this game are probably deeper than any other, you have to learn new driving skills, fighting moves, and getting new weapons. I actually didn’t like the controls for this game, after fighting a few thugs my fingers and wrist hurt from all the button mashing I just did.

The sound for True Crime was done pretty badly. You can barely hear the car radios tunes, which is a shame since half the songs are done by Snoop Dogg.(They should have added radio stations, which would be a great plus) When you’re firing a gun it sounds like a paint ball gun. And the thing that I hated most about the sound was if you were walking around checking if pedestrians had some illegal stuff on them you’d hear something like, ”Eyy, I got a green card pablo.” Which of course sounded like shit.

The graphics for the game were easy on the eye, realistic looking cars, nice smoke effects, and nice character designs. I don’t want to say it but True Crimes graphics are far much superior to GTA, just because its Activision and they’re known for that type of stuff.

My closing comments are, this game is awesome for the first few episodes but it gets old and repetitive fast. Rockstar has nothing to worry about since this game is nothing near GTA 3/ GTA VC. If you’re thinking about buying this game, I highly recommend that you don’t and you just rent it instead. It was a nice idea with the cop stuff but unfortunately it just wasn’t there. Too much hype to the game and I’m just not sure why it was there in the first place.
